Now data is flowing!

The SmartLivingNEXT Dataspace represents a uniform national access point for the digital SmartLivingNEXT ecosystem. This means that data is provided securely and across manufacturers and can be used for the development of intelligent smart living services. This requires several technological building blocks, such as an IoT backend or a data space blueprint. In SmartLivingNEXT, each project is free to decide which components of the blueprint it wants to use to implement the use cases.

DuITeasy is the first project in SmartLivingNEXT to use the Dataspace Blueprint to develop its use cases. This means that project developers can now set up an assistance dataspace (ADS) including intelligent applications and basic services. This ADS contains all the data, interfaces and systems required for assistance services.

A standardized data access point is crucial for the seamless integration and interoperability of different data sources in the DuITeasy project.

“A standardized data access point is crucial for the seamless integration and interoperability of different data sources in the DuITeasy project,” Florian Böhle, consortium leader of the project, is convinced. “Such an access point is the only way to create new solutions based on the availability of all data in a common data room. In addition, data quality and efficiency can be increased and the central administration of security and data protection guidelines made easier.” Böhle is particularly positive about the cooperation with the SmartLivingNEXT flagship project. In order to be able to use the Dataspace Blueprint, there was an intensive exchange with the two consortium partners Materna and German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI).

Managed deployment facilitates focus on core competence of SmartLivingNEXT projects

The “managed deployment” of the data space provided by Materna saved DuITeasy a considerable amount of time, as the solutions developed in the flagship project were immediately ready for use and are continuously being further developed by the company. “This allows DuITeasy to focus its internal resources and know-how on the core competencies and strategic activities in the project instead of having to invest in the operation and maintenance of the data infrastructure,” explains Böhle. The expertise of the flagship project and Materna also ensures high availability, security and continuous innovation.

Next steps: Transfer of real data

Data from DuITeasy test apartments of the consortium partners German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and easierLife are currently being incorporated into the Dataspace Blueprint. The infrastructure of Stadtwerke Saarbrücken is to be connected by August. The plan for this year is to equip the apartments at DuDoPark and the GIU parking lots so that they can also supply data to the Dataspace Blueprint. Once the sensors have been installed in the test environments, real data can immediately flow into the data room.

Dataspace Blueprint with further updates

Materna has already announced updates to the Dataspace Blueprint. Load tests are now being carried out to determine the influence of devices on system capacities and the resource consumption required for this. In addition, adjustments are made to the infrastructure, for example in the form of backups and security checks. The company is also holding intensive talks with other SmartLivingNEXT projects so that they can follow DuITeasy’s example in the near future.
