What will the electricity tariffs of the future look like?

The field phase of the FAME4ME project’s study on dynamic electricity tariffs began on May 21. Together with Stadtwerke Schweinfurt GmbH, the SmartLivingNEXT project is testing an innovative tariff model that offers consumers more flexibility and control over their electricity consumption. A second round of the study is planned for late summer.
Dynamic electricity tariffs
In contrast to traditional electricity tariffs with fixed prices per kilowatt hour, dynamic tariffs are based on the current exchange price. The electricity price changes hourly – depending on supply and demand. If you use electricity when it is cheaper, you can not only save money, but also reduce the burden on the energy system.
To the study
As part of the project, FAME4ME is testing a mixed tariff consisting of a fixed and a dynamic component. Each month, participants in the study individually choose how high the dynamic component of their electricity tariff should be. They can flexibly adjust their tariff via an app or online platform, track their electricity consumption and gain valuable insights into their consumption behavior.
The aim of the study is to better understand the behavior of users in everyday life under a dynamic electricity tariff. The insights gained from this will be incorporated into the design of future electricity tariff models.
Part of the FAME4ME and SmartLivingNEXT project
The field study is part of the FAME4ME research project, which deals with the development of intelligent energy management systems for buildings. The aim is to use artificial intelligence to develop individual, needs-based energy services that make electricity use more efficient and cost-effective.
Join in now and help shape the future of energy
The second round of the field study will begin in late summer. Anyone who would like to take part can register now and will be informed about the start. This is also possible outside the network area of Stadtwerke Schweinfurt.

Central documents for SmartLivingNEXT
The white paper contains the guideline and reference framework for the future technical development of the SmartLivingNEXT Dataspace and the desired governance structure. It was created with the collaboration of teams from German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Research Association for Electrical Engineering at ZVEI e.V., Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and Materna Information & Communications SE. You can have the white paper sent to you as a PDF. Please contact our project office at projektbuero@smartlivingnext.de.
The document is intended as a structuring investor perspective and orientation framework, not as a final business plan, and analyzes the possible roles of potential investors. It was written in collaboration with Michael Schidlack, Research Association for Electrical Engineering at ZVEI e.V., Dr. Rahild Neuburger, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and Lars Thomsen, future matters AG. You can have the document sent to you as a PDF. Please contact our project office at projektbuero@smartlivingnext.de.
