The COMET project presented and successfully tested its specially developed demonstrator for sovereign data sharing in smart living for the first time at the Digital Week in Osnabrück.
A lot of data is generated in our homes every day – from thermostats, lighting systems and household appliances to the wallbox. The central question is: how can this data be shared in a trustworthy manner without giving up control? COMET aims to create a fair balance: Companies are given access to quality-assured data and can thus develop innovative and tailor-made services, while private individuals can decide for themselves at any time which data is released and what it is used for – data sovereignty is thus guaranteed at all times.
The first test data sets were used at the event to impressively illustrate how data from households can be provided in a trustworthy manner – and how private individuals can retain their data sovereignty. The functionality of the demonstrator was presented in a practical way using various processes, light installations and animations so that visitors could directly experience the data flows and the possibilities of secure and sovereign data sharing. Even though this day was an offline version without a connection to the data room, it was the first important test for the project team that impressively showed that the system works – and data records from the SmartLivingNEXT ecosystem can be specifically requested and used in future.
On site, Dr. Tobias Dreesbach and Léon Dankert provided information about how the SmartLivingNEXT data room works and the potential of COMET for sovereign data sharing. The team used the exchange with the visitors to gain valuable impetus for the further development of the prototype.
The next step is to connect the demonstrator to the SmartLivingNEXT data room in order to test the sovereign data exchange in the ecosystem in practice.

Central documents for SmartLivingNEXT
The white paper contains the guideline and reference framework for the future technical development of the SmartLivingNEXT Dataspace and the desired governance structure. It was created with the collaboration of teams from German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), the Research Association for Electrical Engineering at ZVEI e.V., Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and Materna Information & Communications SE. You can have the white paper sent to you as a PDF. Please contact our project office at projektbuero@smartlivingnext.de.
The document is intended as a structuring investor perspective and orientation framework, not as a final business plan, and analyzes the possible roles of potential investors. It was written in collaboration with Michael Schidlack, Research Association for Electrical Engineering at ZVEI e.V., Dr. Rahild Neuburger, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) and Lars Thomsen, future matters AG. You can have the document sent to you as a PDF. Please contact our project office at projektbuero@smartlivingnext.de.
